In many charitable organizations, it is easier to find volunteers who want to be on the front lines doing the hands on work then it is to have them accept a position on the board of directors or other committees. Although a presidential position in an organization does offer status and public recognition, fewer individuals are willing to give up their time and effort to fulfill the top roles. Many see this as a concern, but individuals feel more helpful volunteering on a lower level.
There will always be those individuals who want to work at the top, helping an organization reach more of those in need even though it means more work. The more work a volunteer can do, the more lives that are touched. Being in a leadership role in a volunteer organization does mean a lot of time spent attending meetings, taking risks for the project at hand, making difficult decisions in the face of scrutiny, and accepting the legal liability of tough decisions. Despite the demands of working in a leadership role in a volunteer organization, many volunteers are willing to accept the challenge for the sake of helping others.
Many organizations understand the challenge of finding volunteers who are willing to take on the leadership responsibilities and they have began to fear what the future might hold if no one accepts the job. Despite the difficulty of finding these candidates, they are out there and ready to make a difference. The benefits of working in a leadership position outweigh the negatives of the business. For many volunteers, being intellectually challenged helps individuals feel like they are making more of a difference then just handing out supplies or raising funds. As more individuals begin to volunteer, some organizations believe they might have more people than they can manage. Organizations today are looking for individuals who are self-motivated because they require less supervision then volunteers who wait for instructions. A self-motivated volunteer is someone who learns about an organization’s project, gets the resources needed to fulfill the project, and takes action to getting the project done in their own time.
The role of an organization is to initiate a project, tell the public about the needs, and provide clear instructions on how the project should be conducted. Organizations only have the time to loosely observe the volunteers as they carry out the project because the higher volunteers deal with the politics. If each organization had to micromanage every volunteer, the higher levels of the project would suffer because there is less time to manage the paperwork and funding. Maintaining the leadership roles of a charitable organization is important for the success of the volunteer projects that it initiates, which is why the self-motivated volunteer is such an asset.
There are many needs that can be attempted with the approach of having self-motivated volunteers. Many organizations refer to self-motivated volunteers as structured neighborliness. The domino effect of the neighborliness continues in many ways. Self-motivated volunteering is dependent on the capacity of the Internet to reach millions of people who want to volunteer or who need help. One of the most important parts of marketing a business is to create positive attitudes toward the company. An effective technique of marketing is working alongside a local, regional, or national charity. Many businesses work with charities because it can improve their image but also improve their own communities. Individuals in the community believe the company is doing their part to help make county, city, or state a little better for everyone. Finding the right charity to partner with can boost the business image in the area and create respect from members of the community.

Charities come in all forms and help different groups in local, regional, and national communities. A company’s decision to work with a certain charity will have an impact on how the people of the community view the business and should be based on the target market of the business. Local businesses have much narrow field to play when it comes to working with charities that do good things for the community, but most charities are willing to work with businesses large and small as long as the community’s best interest is in mind.

Although finding a charity that is closely associated with the particular business often the most effective, branching out can have a positive effect for both the business and community. If the business is well established in the community than there is a certain level of trust. If the community trusts the business, then working with a less known charity can create awareness of what the charity does and whom they help. Offering help to any new charity is good for marketing because it lets the community know that the business cares for more than just making a profit.

How a business markets their connection with a charity is going to be different depending on the given situation. Whatever charity a business works with, big or small, the community’s best interest should be in mind. If it is not, then the community could decide that their business should go to companies that really do care.

Every year, communities on local, regional, and national levels hold numerous community service events to help those that are less fortunate or are affected by disaster. Individuals are asked to step up and help those in their community and they do without reserve. The compassion that individuals have for others in their community is growing regardless whether or not they know the individual or families they are helping. As the desire to help others in our communities, many are wondering how to take community service to the next level.
Many businesses donate to their charities of choice, but their community service rarely involves the participation of their employees. Most businesses overlook the impact that their group of employees can have for the community, large or small, and believe that what they are doing is enough. As an employee, there are ways to get your coworkers and companies involved in doing more and increase the respect your company receives from the community. Every year, there are several events in which people and families in the community need help.
Most schools begin in August or September every year, and many families are unable to provide their children with the necessary clothing and supplies. By encouraging everyone in the workplace to bring in their children’s clothing that is no longer being used and buying one or two items on the school supply list will result in many families being able to give their kids what they need. Around the holidays, putting a box in the office for food supplies that will be given to the holiday food drives will allow more families to be together to enjoy the holidays without the wonder of where the money will come from.
There are many other ways to get the workplace involved in helping others in the community. Most business would not hesitate letting their employees participate together in community events under the company’s name because they would become a trusted face in the community. There is always someone in need of help in every community and the more people that come together, the better.
